Stefano Corato. Born in Rome, he earned a degree in contrabass at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in 1979 under the guidance of Maestro Battistelli. He participated in various concert seasons with the R.A.I. Orchestra of Rome; later he continued his activities as contrabassist for various chamber music ensembles. His professional activity took the direction of production, first for records, and later in radio broadcasting. In 1985 he was named head of the sublabel New Talent of the notable American label – which became in 1987 the German B.M.G. Ariola – by Maestro Riccardo Michelini, who was at that time creative director of R.C.A.. During these years he also collaborated as producer for various other internationally successful recording projects. In 1990 he was hired as editor and technical assistant for musical recordings at Vatican Radio; from 2008 he is Director of Musical Programs at the pontifical radio station. Up to the present he conducts a daily broadcast of music and musical commentary and is the artistic director of all musical recordings produced by Vatican Radio also in the realm of the European Broadcasting Union’s Euroradio.
